The 2024 PRSA-NY Big Apple Awards at Manhatta was a celebration of public relations excellence, led by dynamic hosts and filled with unexpected moments that made the gala unforgettable. Industry icon Maryam Banikarim, Managing Director of Fortune Live Media, emceed the event. Known for her work with Fortune’s Most Powerful Women and Brainstorm Tech franchises, Banikarim’s storied career has seen her excel in roles across agency, media, and client landscapes, offering a rich perspective on the ever-evolving communications industry. In a surprise twist, long-time New York news anchor and Media.com brand ambassador Pat Kiernan joined the event to conduct on-site interviews with award winners. Known citywide for his approachable and insightful news delivery, Kiernan’s presence brought an added sense of excitement. He greeted the room with his signature warmth, saying, “It’s great to be back at the Big Apple Awards after more than a decade.” Kiernan engaged winners with his now-famous “tiny mic”– pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month–interviews, promising, “Nothing formal or nerve-wracking — just a fun, fast Q&A to talk about your win,” capturing the energy and thrill of the awards.
