Tweak Your Tweets

Jill KurtzBy Jill Kurtz, Owner Kurtz Digital StrategyThe Twitter research team recently studied 9,000 direct response campaigns in the U.S. to identify key ways marketers can improve campaign performance on the social media platform. The results offer some great insights, whether you are using Twitter for organic reach, paid campaigns, or both.

  • Convey urgency: Tweets with words like hurry, fast, quick, running out, and limited time that create a sense of urgency have a 10% higher click-through rate (CTR).
  • Use percentages: Tweets that advertise value in terms of percentage do better than those that do so in terms of dollars.
  • Share what’s new: Tweets that talk about new products or services or a new angle on something have a 23% higher click-through rate.
  • Short wins: Tweets that are 40-60 characters have better reach compared with Tweets of any other length.
  • Ask a question: Tweets that ask a question have a 16% higher click-through rate than Tweets that don’t.
  • Minimize @mentions: Tweets that mention another handle have a slightly lower click-through rate.

Limit hashtags: Tweets with hashtags actually have a slightly lower click-through rate than those that use them.[author]About the Author: Jill Kurtz founded Kurtz Digital Strategy to help clients see the communication potential of the newest trends and technologies.
