 Please join Mel, the Mencher family and his former students for the virtual launch of A MEMOIR: MELVIN MENCHER | From Coast to Coast and Stops in Between.Rex Smith, ‘80, chair, Columbia Journalism School Alumni Board, will serve as emcee of the virtual event. He will interview Mel about his life and career—from his Depression-era childhood in New York City to college in New Mexico; meeting his future wife, Helen Chamberlain, at the University of Colorado; and work as a journalist that led to a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard and a tenured professorship at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.Mel Mencher is the author of News Reporting and Writing. More than a quarter of a million students at over 350 colleges and universities have learned the craft and ethics of journalism from twelve editions of NRW.<Along the way, the Mencher family drove to Costa Rica, lived in a small cabin with an outhouse in Northern Ontario, and traveled the world as birdwatchers.We invite you to share your own tribute to Mel.
