Are We Crossing Over To The Dark Side Of Journalism?

Thomas Madden, CEO, TransMedia Group

When a major national newspaper publishes a scathing rebuke of our President as an OP-ED and does so ANONYMOUSLY, are we crossing over to the dark side of journalism?

Where will it end if attribution hides? Will the decline of journalism start on the opinion page and spread to other sections we've come to believe are factual because we can judge the veracity of the source and there is what was once so highly regarded, corroboration.

At least that's how I practiced journalism as a reporter at The Philadelphia Inquirer. "Get that attribution, corroborate those facts, my editors demanded of me. So I'm worried what we may be crossing over into--a murky place where opinion rules and sources remain dangerously anonymous!

Can our democracy survive anonymity? I'm worried.
