Crowdfunding IPO's Gaining Traction
CommPRO.biz Editorial StaffCrowdfunding as a way for companies to raise capital for an initial public offering (IPO) is a relatively new concept. It's been legal in the U.S. markets for about two years. But, it's gaining momentum quickly, as companies seek to bypass the traditional IPO process involving investment banks and limited investor access. What's known as Reg A+ IPOs help connect emarging companies with a broad pool of both large and small investors. And the concept is resonating.CrowdfundX, a Los Angeles-base FinTech marketing firm, recently announced its client FAT Brands successfully completed its Reg A+ IPO to NASDAQ, raising $24M by selling 2,000,000 shares at $12.00 per share. The company is now trading under ticker symbol "FAT" (Fresh, Authentic, Tasty).FAT Brands, parent of the 162-unit Fatburger chain, engaged CrowdfundX to run its direct-to-investor digital marketing campaign, while TriPoint Global Equities, LLC, working with its online division BANQ®, acted as the lead managing selling agent and sole bookrunner for the offering.CrowdfundX has now completed a trifecta of Reg A+ IPOs to NASDAQ (FAT Brands), NYSE (Myomo, Inc.) and OTC Markets Group (Elio Motors). In aggregate, their clients have raised more than $80 million since Reg A+ became effective in the U.S. in 2015. The overall trend continues to point upward as more and more companies seek to raise capital outside of the traditional IPO and venture capital channels.
