New Job, New Culture - Will The Fit Work?

Company culture is extremely important when thinking about moving to a new job. If you're not happy, you won't do a good job and not fitting in can cause major stress. It's not easy trying to determine if you will fit into a company's culture but, according to Pay Scale, there are three ways:

  • Speak to your future teammates.  These people will form the core of your working relationships.  Why are they at the company?  What do they see as the pluses and minuses?  Remember, when you ask these questions, be upbeat.  You are not looking for negatives, just information.
  • Network for information.  Start using those social media connections.  Look for alumni of the company. This company could be your next home, make sure it's the right one for you.
  • Review the company's job listings past and present.  Look for words like 'fast-paced,' 'comfortable environment,' 'able to work without supervision.'  Make sure you are comfortable with the descriptive words used.

Look and listen for what you want, not the image the company wants to portray.marie-rapertoMarie Raperto, The Hiring Hub
