Periods After A Text: Not A Good Look
Generation Z is about to change your business forever. Learn how.How you say something might be as important as what you say. And since you can't get hear someone's tone or see their facial expression when they text, you look signs of warmth in things like emoticons, deliberate misspellings that mimic speech sounds and punctuation, according to researchers at Binghamton University's Celia Klin. They call this "computer-mediated communication" or CMC.And if 126 undergrads who text a lot are any indication, periods are seen as insincere in texting. Using no punctuation is better, but exclamation points are best, especially when responding to invitations. None of these expectations, the researchers concluded, occurred with handwritten notes.Especially among younger people, communication is happening via text rather than phone calls. Not understanding how to read between the lines of texting communication, a trend we call Code, or communicating non-verbally and with secret (insider) cues, could make you look out of touch.
