The Ability to Set Yourself Apart (Video) - Part II

George Washington University’s Master’s in Strategic Public Relations OnlineGSPM students come from all walks of life, but are united by a common desire to advance in their careers and be at the forefront of the PR profession. Our alumni say it’s never too late to start.“It just seemed like a natural extension of my career path,” says Tracey Beeker, founder of marketing and communications firm BE MORE Consultants. “Being an older student I really enjoyed really focusing on some new things that were new to me i.e. things like new media, digital media, and really focusing on social media strategy. From a communications standpoint that is where you are today and the GSPM and just working with a younger group of folks has really allowed me to hone in on those skills,” she adds.“I hadn’t been in school since 1992 and so to come back as a returning student at the age of 38 years old at that point could have been possibly intimidating, but I found it invigorating,” says Willem Rijksen, Vice President of Public Affairs at the American Insurance Association.Scott Reiter, Vice President of Political Affairs at the National Association of Realtors, says the GSPM program was perfect for students with several years of work experience. “I remember the final class the capstone some of the lessons in negotiations strategies put forth I still use to this day, which I don’t think I would have appreciated them if I had been younger,” he says.
