"What is Public Relations?"

The Museum of Public RelationsThis is one of a dozen artifacts documenting the nearly 75 year history of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). "What is Public Relations?" is a typewritten brochure from 1947, produced to promote the organization's founding. It contains responses from the day's PR leaders, and many of the definitions are just as applicable as they are today... Another vehicle the organization used to explain the field to the general public was this "March of Time" newsreel, "Public Relations: This Means You!" The newsreel was shown in 1947/48 in move theaters around the country, and features John Hill, TJ Ross, Ben Sonnenberg, Doris and Edward Bernays, etc.... PRSA was created by the merger of the American Council on Public Relations and the National Association of Public Relations Councils.
